On May 21, the 12th China Sports Industry Conference (hereinafter referred to as “the Conference”), hosted by China Sporting Goods Federation (CSGF), was successfully held in Nanchang. Under the theme “Integration: A New Wave of the Sports Economy”, the Conference focused on the intersection of the 14th Five-Year Plan’s final stage and the planning for the 15th Five-Year Plan, aiming to explore new trends in integrated development across the sports industry and contribute fresh insights for expanding the boundaries of sports consumption and unlocking new growth drivers.
Mr. Li Hua, Chairman of CSGF, emphasized that for over a decade, the Federation has remained committed to organizing the Conference as a public-interest event. The Conference has become a key platform for publishing industry research results, interpreting new policies, sharing innovations, and projecting future trends. It continues to inject foresight and intellectual momentum into the China Sport Show, supporting the upgrading of the exhibition and transformation of the industry ecosystem.
The Conference brought together experts and representatives from government agencies, academic institutions, enterprises, and media, who shared in-depth perspectives on key topics such as "Sports+" integration, event economy, outdoor sports, sporting goods foreign trade, youth sports, and sports technology.
Ms. Yang Xuedong, Director of the Department of Sports Economy at the General Administration of Sport of China, reviewed the recent progress of the sports industry. She highlighted its increasing integration into China’s broader economic and social landscape, playing an active role in stabilizing growth, stimulating consumption, enhancing city branding, and contributing to rural revitalization. Key developments include the rapid growth of the event economy, the emergence of outdoor sports as a new economic driver, accelerated upgrading in sporting goods manufacturing, and a sustained surge in sports consumption.
Mr. Luo Jie, Vice Chairman and Secretary General of CSGF, presented the latest industry research findings. In 2023, the total output of sporting goods manufacturing and sales exceeded RMB 2 trillion for the first time. The value added by the sector reached RMB 383.2 billion, with an average annual growth rate of 6.82% since 2020, accounting for 1.16% of China’s total manufacturing value added and showing a steady increase since 2021. In 2024, the total import and export value of sporting goods reached USD 29.883 billion, with exports recovering notably. E-commerce also saw strong growth: based on data from JD.com, Taobao, Tmall, and Douyin, the total online sales of sporting goods in China reached RMB 333.745 billion, up 22.59% year-on-year.
Whether in the Conference or the concurrent 42nd China Sport Show, “integration” has emerged as both a trend and a highlight. As the sports industry evolves into a pillar of the national economy, integration will play an increasingly vital role in sustaining momentum. Sincere thanks to all those who continue to support and believe in China’s sporting goods sector. Together, we look forward to a future of shared innovation and growth.
