To elevate the professionalism and standardization of basketball court facilities in China, ensure athlete safety, optimize event experiences, and drive the high-quality development of basketball, China Sporting Goods Federation (hereinafter referred as CSGF) and FIBA China officially announced on September 9 that the FIBA (China) Basketball Court Evaluation Program is now open for applications nationwide.
The Program involves professional on-site inspections and evaluations of core basketball court facilities based on FIBA's globally unified, high-standard technical specifications. Courts that pass the evaluation will receive an official evaluation certificate endorsed by FIBA China. These courts will then become venues that meet the hardware requirements for top-tier international events, while also laying a solid foundation for hosting higher-level competitions and attracting high-caliber teams for training and matches.
In May, CSGF and FIBA China held a signing ceremony at the China Sport Show 2025, where FIBA China officially authorized CSGF as the exclusive promoter and operator of the program in mainland China. The two parties have collaborated closely to advance the technical development of core documents such as the "FIBA (China) Basketball Court Evaluation Technical Specifications" and the "FIBA (China) Basketball Court Evaluation Management Measures," thereby establishing a comprehensive evaluation standard. Through this scientific and quantitative evaluation mechanism, they aim to comprehensively enhance the overall performance indicators of courts and create a certification system for constructing high-standard basketball courts that combines international standards with local practices.
The core of the court evaluation lies in strict and meticulous on-site inspections and assessments of five key dimensions—basketball hoops, sports flooring, lighting systems, timing and scoring equipment, and court markings—in accordance with the latest technical specifications for equipment issued by FIBA.
Specific evaluations include, but are not limited to:
· Inspecting the structural stability, impact resistance, hoop height and elasticity, and safety devices of basketball hoops to ensure they meet the requirements of high-intensity competitions and safeguard athlete safety;
· Assessing the performance indicators of the flooring, such as shock absorption, vertical deformation, ball rebound rate, friction coefficient, and flatness, as well as the foundation structure and installation quality, to provide athletes with an optimal platform for performance and injury prevention;
· Measuring illuminance levels, uniformity, glare control, and color rendering index to ensure adequate, even, and distraction-free lighting within the court, meeting the needs of high-definition broadcasting and clear visual judgment by athletes;
· Verifying the accuracy, reliability, visibility, and compliance of the timing and scoring system with FIBA rules (including main and secondary displays, 24-second devices, and control systems) to ensure precise timing and clear dissemination of information during competitions;
· and ensuring precise court markings to guarantee fairness in games.
The launch of the court evaluation program represents a crucial step in solidifying the foundation of the facility for the high-quality development of basketball in China.
