On July 17, the kickoff meeting for the national standard "Configuration and Requirements for Equipment Used in eSports" was held in Hangzhou, organized by the China Sporting Goods Federation and the National Standardization Technical Committee on Sporting Goods (TC291).
Luo Jie, Vice Chair and Secretary-General of CSGF (hereinafter referred as CSGF), as well as Chair of TC291, stated in his speech that this national standard is a crucial step in promoting the standardized and professional development of the industry. It will lay a solid foundation for the industry's growth and inject new impetus for the high-quality development of China's eSports sector.
Cai Jianqi from the China National Institute of Standardization noted that eSports athletes undergo extensive training, which can lead to visual fatigue. Therefore, the national standard must establish a health protection baseline and guide enterprises in innovation. Guo Ya, also from the China National Institute of Standardization, introduced that the standard innovatively incorporates a health protection system, marking the first time globally that health and safety dimensions are included in eSports equipment standards.
During the discussion on the draft standard, experts and company representatives engaged in heated debates, reaching a consensus on some data. Moving forward, TC291 will organize technical validations among companies, while the standard drafting team will advance opinion solicitation and pilot applications, as well as discuss the research and development plan and division of labor.
This national standard is a response to the current booming development of the eSports industry and a long-term strategic plan. It fills the gap in eSports equipment standards and provides a Chinese solution for the global standardization of the eSports industry.
