Kick-off Meeting for Revision of Two National Standards on Badminton and Tennis Rackets for Primary and Secondary Schools Held in Xiamen

On July 15, the kick-off meeting for the national standards Sports Equipment and Playgrounds for Primary and Secondary Schools—Part 9: Badminton Rackets and Sports Equipment and Playgrounds for Primary and Secondary Schools—Part 10: Tennis Rackets was held in Xiamen. The meeting was hosted by the National Standardization Technical Committee of Sporting Goods (TC291) and organized by Wish (Xiamen) Sporting Goods Co., Ltd. Experts and representatives from sporting goods companies such as Anta, FILA, and Li-Ning, as well as industry associations and inspection and testing institutions, attended the meeting.

The meeting noted that the two current standards, which have been implemented since 2005, have played an important role in regulating the market, ensuring safety, and serving PE teaching. However, with continuous improvements in physical education conditions in primary and secondary schools, advances in racket manufacturing materials and processes, and innovations in teaching and training methods, the standards need to be revised to adapt to current practical demands. Driven by the policies of sports-education integration and the "double reduction" initiative, badminton and tennis events in primary and secondary schools have become increasingly regular, with annual events totaling 1,000, putting forward higher requirements for the quality of relevant sports equipment.

This revision will align with the work requirements of the Ministry of Education of China, adhere to the principle that standards originate from teaching and serve teaching, focus on addressing the deficiency of age appropriateness, and improve products’ functionality, safety, suitability, and practicality, so that primary and secondary school students can use rackets more safely and comfortably.

The participating experts conducted in-depth discussions on the draft standards and put forward suggestions for revision regarding product functions, safety, and other aspects, laying a solid foundation for subsequent revision work. The revised standards will further improve the national standard system for sports equipment in primary and secondary schools, support the integration of sports and education, and promote the healthy growth of young people.
