National Standard for Dumbbells and Kettlebells Initiated in Shanxi

A kick-off meeting for the national standard Requirements for Use and Test Methods for Dumbbells and Kettlebells was successfully held in Taiyuan, Shanxi Province on August 19. Representatives from relevant government authorities, sporting goods enterprises and industry organizations gathered at the event to officially launch the standard formulation work and conduct in-depth discussions on the draft.

As core basic strength training equipment, dumbbells and kettlebells have witnessed rapidly expanding application scenarios and surging market demand amid the continuous boom of the national fitness campaign. The upcoming standard is set to lay out clearer, unified specifications for product quality, safety performance and production processes, and strongly support the standardized, healthy development of the entire industry.

During the meeting, all participants carried out targeted discussions on the scope of application, core technical indicators and corresponding test methods of the draft standard. The subsequent formulation process will fully take into account actual industry operation practices, authoritative testing data, end-user demands and relevant international standard specifications, to ensure the final standard is both technically rigorous and highly practical for industry implementation.

The National Standardization Technical Committee of Sporting Goods (TC291) will lead follow-up work including in-depth technical research, testing and verification, and multi-stakeholder opinion solicitation, to continuously optimize the draft and steadily push forward the whole formulation process. All meeting participants also arranged on-site visits to local key enterprises, gaining first-hand insights into production processes and real product application scenarios, which provides practical input for the subsequent revision and improvement of the standard.
