Kick-off Meeting for Group Standard on Floor Curling Equipment and Venues Held

Recently, the kick-off meeting for the group standard Floor Curling: Equipment and Venues was successfully held. The meeting was jointly initiated by the Chinese Curling Association and the China Sporting Goods Federation. Representatives from sports administration departments, industry associations, manufacturing enterprises, third-party testing institutions, as well as universities and research institutes attended, discussing the standard framework, product classification, core technical indicators, and test methods.

The meeting noted that floor curling is not constrained by seasons or ice rink venue conditions and has been widely introduced into campuses, communities, and other scenarios. It is an important implementation carrier for the strategy of “engaging 300 million people in ice and snow sports” and “to expand winter sports southward, westward and eastward”.

However, product specifications and performance vary, and there is a lack of unified basis for testing, acceptance, and use. Existing international standards mainly focus on roll-up tracks and have not yet established specifications for liquid synthetic ice, simulated ice panels, and other products. China should both align with international rules and develop its own standard solutions, striving to lead the development of the floor curling industry.

The standard will focus on two core product categories: curling stones and tracks, to specify classification, technical requirements, test methods, and marking, while taking into account competition use and popularization scenarios such as campuses and national fitness. The working group focused on track specifications and test methods for sliding performance, the safety performance of curling stones, and limits of harmful substances.

Next, the working group will improve the draft, form a consultation draft, solicit public comments, and advance subsequent review. Once implemented, the standard is expected to regulate market order, safeguard the safe promotion of the sport, and support the high-quality development of the ice and snow industry.
