China sees marginal increase in CPI in March 2024

China's inflation rate showed a slight increase in March, with the consumer price index (CPI) rising by a modest 0.1 per cent compared to the same month last year, according to the data released by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).
Conversely, on a monthly basis, the CPI experienced a decrease of 1 per cent in March. The core CPI, which excludes the volatile categories of food and energy, saw an increase of 0.6 per cent year-on-year (YoY).
In terms of wholesale prices, the producer price index (PPI), a key measure of inflation at the factory level, recorded a decline of 2.8 per cent YoY in March, as per NBS.
